Born in the Dominican Republic, son of Jaime Matos Sr., a civil engineer, and Angela Herrera, an actress. He completed High School and graduated from the University with a Land Surveying Bachelor’s Degree. Jaime held several positions in government and private industry and participated in relevant engineering projects during his career in the Dominican Republic.

Jaime Matos is a non-religious Christian and father of three young men, ages 21, 20 and 17. He traveled to visit a friend living in Kissimmee and fell in love with the city. He had a dream to come to America to better himself and chose to reside in the City of Kissimmee. He felt it would be a nice city where he could raise his children. Jaime has been a resident of Kissimmee since 1990.

Jaime is a guitarist, writer, and poet. He recently won a third place prize in the First Poetry Contest of Central Florida. Since moving to Kissimmee, Jaime has volunteered in many community events, including caring for the elderly. Mr. Matos says, “I believe we should give back to the community some of the blessings we receive. It is good to live to serve.” Jaime is also a member of the City of Kissimmee Historic Preservation Board.

Jaime has been an Orange County employee for 15 years and currently works for the Public Works, Roads and Drainage Division. His employment with Orange County has enabled him to see government at work. This sparked his desire to enter public office to represent the community in his city, Kissimmee.

Jaime Matos is running for City Commissioner Seat 4, Kissimmee. When asked what moved him to file to run for office, he replied, “I am convinced it is time for our community to have just representation in the City Government

General elections are scheduled for November 7th, 2006.
